M1 GT Racing, a premier program in the world of sports car racing, will enter their fourth year of running their GT program. Based on and utilizing the first two seasons of learning and competing in the Pirelli World Challenge (PWC), the team claimed the Pirelli World Challenge SprintX Team Vice Championship as well as Pro Driver Championship in 2016 with their Audi R8 LMS. The past three seasons have provided a great platform to help M1 GT Racing learn and master the ropes of the Pirelli World Challenge and understand the series’ and the manufacturer’s level of commitment to not only provide race winning equipment, but a professional, equal and level playing field for all teams and competitors involved.
“Since day one of our relationship with Audi, they have provided us with outstanding support as was promised and expected. Based on the numerous new cars available in 2016 in the GT class, M1 GT has decided based on projected performance of the product, as well as the strong support from Audi Sport customer racing, to remain a loyal partner to the brand and program.”
The M1 GT target and objective was to become the strongest customer based Audi team in North America beginning immediately and carrying forward throughout the 2016 and 2017 racing seasons. In 2018, the Audi program will enter the GT4 division in the complete Pirelli World Challenge Championship with Floridian driver Jason Bell. The team will continue to house their program in Florida. M1 GT’s intentions are to participate in as many North American events available in the coming year with the focus on the PWC program.
